請求國外學者寫推薦信時...?

大家好,
假如我想請求一個知名學者幫我寫推薦信給某某人(私底下認識)
可否用

I am pleased to have your recommedation letter to send to Prof. XXX

這邊的問題是, please 這樣用可以嗎?

因為我覺得用 ask for 好像太不禮貌...
請問有更好的說法嗎?

Not at all.

"I'm pleased" means "I'm happy". And why are you happy to have the
recommendation, if you haven't even got it yet? That makes no sense.

If you want a recommendation, ask for it. Chinese standards and American
standards on etiquette are quite different in certain ways. It's better
to just say it straight

"Dear ______,

I am ______. I believe you know professor ______. I wish to attend his
school and study from him. Is it possible for you write a letter of
recommendation about me to professor ____? I believe you know me well
enough to give an honest objective opinion... "
