[問題] may 在疑問句中能當「可能」嗎?

請問 may 在疑問句中可以意思是 "可能" 嗎?
黃宣範是這麼說的:

may, must在疑問句中沒有epistemic sense:

John may go home. (這(1)句中文有 a.b. 兩個可能).....(1)

a) permission : John可以回家
b) possibility : John可能會回家

但是,

May John go home? .................................(2)

(2)這句中文只能是:-----John可以回家嗎?

John may have already left. (John可能已經走了).....(3)

如果是問John可能不可能已走了：

*(錯)May John have already left?

要說(4)才對:

Is it possible that John may have already left?......(4)
