mind, you dissuade them. It's like saying to the person, "No, no.
Don't do that."

Here the person has made a mistake, but he doesn't think so.
You want to convince him that he has made a mistake.

Another word to think about is the word "persuade".
It is usually used differently than "dissuade". Where dissuade is
used in negation, "persuade" is usually used in the opposite way.
